Kathleen Kiernan

Kathleen Kiernan has a PhD in Art history at the University of Melbourne, where she also completed her Graduate Certificate in Art Conservation Studies and a Master of Art Curatorship.  Her doctoral thesis examined collecting tastes in the eighteenth-century Europe, with a particular focus on Christie’s Auction House in London. She was awarded the Harold Wright Scholarship at the British Museum in 2007, the MacGeorge Scholarship and the Alma Hansen Scholarship in 2010.  Her expertise is in; northern European and British art of the long nineteenth century, particularly works on paper, as well as the early twentieth century and the 80s revivals of printmaking in Australia. 

She was contracted as one of the coordinators of the management of the V.C.A. collection in 2021, and is currently engaged in indigenous art projects, both privately and at the University of Melbourne.

With academic standing in teaching collection management and curatorship subjects at the University of Melbourne, Kathleen demonstrates the best gallery practices and conservation procedures, as recommended by the AICCM and the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
